(Cedar City, UT) - Southern Utah will have its final warm-up of the season before competing for a Summit League title when the Thunderbirds travel to Ogden to participate in the Weber Twilight meet on Wednesday night.

Only a handful of athletes are anticipated to compete for Southern Utah this week as the group looks to qualify for the final spots on the traveling roster for the Summit League Championships May 13 through May 15.

The T-Birds will be coming off a very successful showing at home last weekend as the team captured 17 individual titles at the SUU Invitational. The titles included a sweep for the women in the 100 through 1,500-meter races on the track with Chelsey Allen and Sharla Manuele capturing titles in the 100 and 200-meters and 800 and 1,500-meters, respectively.

Manuele’s time of 4:23.43 in the 1,500-meters marked a new school record and facility record and also stands No. 1 in the conference. Manuele has now tallied three of the top times in school history, having already set school records in the 3,000-meters (9:57.42) and 5,000-meters (16:05.67) during her outdoor career. The senior is seconds from a school-record time in the 800-meters, running to a personal-best time of 2:11.03 last weekend.

Manuele is one of three Thunderbird women leading the Summit League in their respective events with the list also including Kristi Koplin in the hammer (196 feet seven inches) and Amber Madril in the javelin (141 feet nine inches).

On the men’s side, Hayden Hawks (5,000-meters; 14:32.36), Dallas Eborn (steeplechase; 9:08.58) and Carlos Valle lead the Summit League with Valle leading the conference in a pair of events, including the discus (179 feet 10.75 inches) and shot put (53 feet 7.5 inches).

The meet on Wednesday is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the women’s steeplechase and will culminate in the men’s 4x400-meter relay set to begin at 7:05 p.m. Field events are slated for 12:30 p.m. with the men’s hammer and continue through 6:00 p.m.
