(St. George, UT) - The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that fire officials say the wildfire threat in southern Utah May through August is below or at normal levels for this time of year.

Color Country Interagency Fire Agency managers met Friday in St. George reporting the region received more than twice the usual amount of precipitation this year. Fire management chief Walter Burdick says southwestern Utah and the Arizona Strip has 238 percent of normal precipitation this year. He says a lot of that is melting mountain snowpack that's expected to last through early June.

The Color Country agency shares resources of members including the US Bureau of Land Management, Dixie National Forest, Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, National Park Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
