(Cedar City, UT) - The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will open state Route 14 (S.R. 14) to daytime traffic beginning Friday afternoon, August 3, 2012. The area has been closed during daylight hours on weekdays for several months as construction workers stabilized slopes and rebuilt a portion of the canyon road which was destroyed by a massive landslide.

Workers will open the construction safety gates in Cedar Canyon Friday, August 3, 2012 at 5:00 PM and plan to leave them open for the remainder of the Restore 14 construction project.

Approximately one-quarter mile of the road is still dirt. Over the next two weeks construction workers will finish hauling dirt across S.R. 14 and then commence placing road-base material prior to paving.

Travelers should continue to use caution in the construction zone and be prepared to stop for heavy trucks crossing the road.

Structural work continues to progress further up the canyon where two additional erosion and slide areas are being repaired.

Drivers may experience minimal delays at these locations where one-way

alternating traffic is regulated by traffic signals. Total delays through the entire canyon should not exceed 15 minutes.

The Restore 14 project addresses landslide and erosion spots on the scenic byway connecting Interstate 15 to U.S. Highway 89 between Cedar City and Kane County.
