(Leeds, UT) - A human caused wildfire east of Leeds and east of I-15 is 100-percent contained after burning 1708-acres of Bureau of Land Management and private land. A helicopter GPS flight mapped the fire Sunday. Mike Melton, Quail Fire Information Officer said that approximately 60 homes were evacuated Saturday but that evacuations have been lifted for all homeowners and power restored. Utility crews are still working to replace power poles in the area damaged by the fire.
Melton said three engines will continue to patrol and mop up as needed.
Two low valued sheds were destroyed Saturday, there are currently no structures threatened. Various homes were saved due to defensible space, effective firefighting tactics and interagency partnerships. One firefighter was transported to the hospital Saturday night and released after being treated for a heat related illness. The fire was fueled by cheatgrass, mixed brush and scattered Pinyon and Juniper trees.
