Lane started his professional career in Portland, Oregon, working for public utilities. His employment led him to Salt Lake City and later on to Indiana. He spent 20 years in the public utility sector, both as a direct employee and as a self-employed consultant. The love of mountains and the outdoors led him back to the west where he and his wife settled in St. George, UT. He loved finding new trails to explore in the surrounding areas of Southern Utah.
In addition to his professional career, he served in many leadership positions in the LDS Church, selflessly giving his time to touch the lives of numerous people across the country. Lane was, however, first and foremost a dedicated family man. His free hours were always spent with his beloved wife supporting his three sons through countless football games, wrestling matches, honors programs and school events. His infectious laugh and quirky sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Joy, and three wonderful sons whom he loved and was proud of: Justin Birch (Ellie), New York City; Jordan Birch, Indianapolis; and Colton Birch, Provo; as well as his brother Scott Birch (Carrie) of Boise, ID. He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, you enjoy a dinner out with your family. Take time with your family because that is what Lane would want.
