(St. George, UT) - A simple idea of placing a flagpole in a SunRiver community park evolved into the SunRiver St. George Veterans Honor Park. Veterans Day 2011 was the day of dedication. The American flag is centered among flags of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Merchant Marine and Navy. A black-and-white Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag is raised below the US flag, all in tribute to the men and women who have served our country.
Ground breaking for the the honor park was held on July 4, 2011 with the Patriot Riders on motorcyles ushering the formal launch of the project chaired by Tom Cover, a former marine and SunRiver resident. He is credited with the creation of the SunRiver St. George Veterans Honor Parkand chaired the fund raising committe which has raised nearly $70,000.
The SunRiver St. George Veterans Honor Park provides the opportunity to create a lasting tribute to loved ones and friends who served their country with distinction and pride with the purchase of a brick on which the honored veteran's name and branch of service is engraved.
