Tigers’ quarterback Taylor Parker (7-of-12 for 133 yards) threw two first quarter touchdowns in helping to get Hurricane off to a fast start. The Tigers built a 28-0 lead by the time 11 minutes had expired and they never looked back in the 42-7 resounding win.
Before Parker scored though, running back Weston Yardley scampered 33 yards putting Hurricane up 7-0 on their second possession. It was the capping play on a three-play 48-yard drive. A few moments later, after forcing a Wasatch three-and-out, Parker threw a short pass to fullback Brian Scott on Hurricane's first play of the possession on the Wasps' 41. Scott snared the pass by the fingertips, turned north and made a 41-yard touchdown out of the sneaky play. The Tigers were up 14-0 with 6:08 remaining in the first quarter.
On the next Tigers’ possession, Parker connected with tight end Colton Marshall on a 49-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-0 with 4:27 remaining on the first half clock.
The Tigers’ defense forced a fifth Wasatch three-and-out and took over after the punt on the 50-yard line.
Hurricane showed off its triumvirate of running backs in three plays. Scott ran for a 19-yard rush, and then Weston Yardley gained nine yards on another run. Adam Thompson finished the quick drive off with a 22-yard dash to the end zone and the Tigers were up 28-0 after the PAT with 46 seconds to go in the first quarter.
The Tigers’ defense held the Wasps’ offense to -1 net yardage on its first five possessions. Wasatch generated some positive gain on its sixth possession when quarterback James Delacenserie hit Talem Franco for a 24-yard pass. Wasatch marched from their 20 down to Hurricane’s four-yard line but stalled on a fourth a goal giving the ball to Hurricane.
