(St. George, UT) - California man was arrested Thursday after police say he took money at knifepoint from a woman at a drive-through ATM.

St. George police Public Information Officer Johnny Heppler said police were called to the US Bank, 792 Bluff Street, around 1:00PM by a woman who said she was robbed while at the bank's ATM.

The woman said she was at a drive-through ATM when a man approached her, brandished a knife and demanded money.

"She gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he ran away," Heppler said.

No one was injured before the man fled, running to a nearby red Toyota passenger car and driving away. The suspect was followed by the victim and other witnesses, who passed information on to police dispatchers, Heppler said.

Officers in the area located the man and were able to detain him. Heppler said they recovered a knife and cash.

Sarkis George Abechian, 41, of Burbank, California, was booked into the Washington County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery. Bail was set at $20,000.

Sarkis Abechian Commited suicide May 15th 2011 after attending his 1:00pm Ward meetings, the burdens of potential jail time was too much for him to handle. My wife (Sarkis's Sister) is devastated after working so hard helping to give him a reason to continue living, He committed the crime in St. George only to put himself in jail not realizing how bad jail would be, he though that he would be taken care of there. We miss him and hope him Heavenly Father will have some mercy on him.
