(St. George, UT) - Dixie State College of Utah’s English Department will welcome renowned author, poet, playwright and film writer/producer Diane Glancy to campus on Thursday, March 24th. Ms. Glancy’s visit is sponsored by the Utah State Poetry Society (UTSPS) as part of the second annual Poetry In the Park, which will be held the next day on Friday, March 25 at Zion National Park in partnership with Zion Canyon Field Institute.

Ms. Glancy, who is of Cherokee/German heritage and published author in many genres, is professor emeritus at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Previously, she was the 2008-09 Visiting Richard Thomas Professor of Creative Writing at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Glancy’s has authored a number of books, including The Reason for Crow, and Pushing the Bear – After the Trail of Tears. Glancy’s latest collection of poems, Stories of a Driven World, was published last year by Mammoth Press of Lawrence, Kansas.

Glancy debuted her first independent film, "The Dome of Heaven", at the Sundance Film Festival last January. The Dome of Heaven tells the story of a Native American family, and their daughter's struggle for an education and for the promise of a rich life.

The Second Annual Poetry in the Park event will be held at the Education Center at Zion National Park. As part of the event, UTSPS will be sponsoring two scholarships for DSC students to this event, which will be held from 10:00AM-to-4:00PM.
