(St. George, UT) - Doctors' Volunteer Clinicof St. George, a non-profit, non-government, community-based health care facility provides quality medical care to members of the community who are indigent.

The clinic was founded in 1999 by the Washington County Medical Society under the leadership of Dr. G. Paul Doxey, MD. The healthcare facility provides healthcare for more than 1,000 people a month who are without health insurance, homeless or living in poverty.

It began with Dixie Care and Share providing space in its 5-room house for the clinic where the kitchen and a small room were used for medical exams. Before long the small space was overwhelmed by the needy. When the word spread of the need, the Boots Cox family donated land at 1036 East Riverside Drive and members of the Southern Utah Home Builders Association donated supplies and labor to construct a 3,000-square foot building where it operates today providing service to over 1,000 people a month.

The clinic operates with 2 full-time and 3 part-time employees and over 50 community volunteers.

Members of the Board of Trustees coordinating the community effort for Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George include:

Dr. G. Paul Doxey, MD, Trustee-Chairman

    DeAnne Staheli, RN, Trustee-Clinic Director

Dr. Gary Lambert, MD, Trustee-Medical Director

Dr. Craig S. McCune, MD, Trustee-Medical Director

    Dr. Vern Erickson, DDS,Trustee

Dr. David L. Barnett, MD, Trustee

    John R. Matthews, Trustee-Treasurer

    Janet Doxey - Trustee-Secretary

Rod Orton, Trustee-City of St. George Representative

John Pike - Trustee-Dixie Regional Medical Center Representative

    Brigham Johnson, Trustee

    Russ Galian, Trustee-Attorney at Law

Again, Doctors' Volunteer Clinic has outgrown its current building and needs to expand. And, again the Southern Utah Home Builders Association is helping in the expansion.

The 2011 St. George Area Parade of Homes is participating in raising $80,000 in matching funds required to complete the expansion thanks to a grant from the Eccles Foundation. The 2011 event is raising community awareness and financial contributions during the Parade of Homes February 18-27. Donation boxes are found at select homes on display and at ticket locations in the Red Cliffs Mall and Lin’s Markets. Each dollar raised will go directly to the building fund and patient care.

For information on this project contact Mari Smith at the Southern Utah Home Builder Association - mari@suhba.comtrump@dixie.edu or (435) 632-6111. Additional information is also available at Doctors' Volunteer Clinic.
