  • Women's VB: Dixie State sweeps Grand Canyon 3-0 Friday and 3-1 Saturday

    (Phoenix, AZ) - The Dixie State College women's volleyball team swept Grand Canyon University 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 on the Arizona campus Friday night.

    The Red Storm led by the play of Madisyn Fitzgerald's (Mountain View HS, Mesa, Arizona) with 11 kills improved to 14-9 overall and 9-6 in PacWest play. Kimee Clark (Dixie HS, St. George, Utah) had 32 assists and Jayci Jeffress (Brighton HS, Brighton, Colorado) and Brita Noble (Taylorsville HS, Taylorsville, Utah) had 14 and 13 digs respectively.

    Saturday the Red Storm won a four set match over Grand Canyon University 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, and 25-22. Dixie State improved to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in PacWest play.

    Saturday's final match of the 2010 campaign was led by Alex Shearer and Brita Noble’s 13 kills and the defensive play of Jayci Jeffress who had a school record 32 digs in four sets, to give the Red Storm the victory.

    Dixie State hit .227 for the match and had a combined for 10 team blocks. Morgan Hill (Logan HS, LOgan, Utah) had one block solo and five block solos to lead Dixie State. Middle blocker Madisyn Fitzgerald had her 12th double-digit kill match of the season.

    Coach Gregg Jensen said, “we played well and I am proud of the girls and how they finished the season with three consecutive wins. We played with a lot of purpose the last two nights.”

    Dixie State concluded its third consecutive winning season finishing with 15 wins for the second straight year with no seniors. Next year should be another terrific volleyball season for the Red Storm women's team.
