CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah University women’s tennis team is on the road again this weekend for a doubleheader in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Thunderbirds will go head-to-head against the University of North Dakota and the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Previously for the Thunderbirds
The T-Birds most recently played the Grand Canyon Antelopes and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, with both matches ending in a 7-0 loss.
Thunderbirds senior Evgenia Marushko and junior Mikala Lowrance lead the team for Southern Utah, each with individual records of 3-4 in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions respectively.
Scouting the Opponents
First on the schedule for the Thunderbirds are the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. North Dakota will be the T-Birds’ fourth Big Sky Conference match of the 2017 season.
The Fighting Hawks stand with a 4-7 record overall, and a 3-2 conference record. Fighting Hawks’ Preethi Kasilingam ties for second place in winning percentage in the No. 2 position with Northern Colorado’s Marissa Baca for Big Sky tennis with a 1-0 record. Kasilingam also holds first place in winning percentage in the No. 4 position with a 2-0 record.
Following their conference showdown with the Fighting Hawks, the T-Birds will turn their attention to the University of Nebraska-Omaha. UNO has a 2-7 record, their last match resulting in a 7-0 loss against Nebraska University. Omaha is currently on a five-game losing streak.
The Thunderbirds will play both matches in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Saturday, March 4, beginning at 12 p.m. against North Dakota. The match against Omaha will follow at 4 p.m.
