(Grand Canyon, AZ) - A woman's body recovered from below the South Rim on Thursday, February 10 has been identified as that Janice Wotherspoon, 64 of St. George, Utah.

On Wednesday, February 9 the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call from the victim's husband, who said that upon his return from the men's room he was unable to locate his wife. Almost an hour later, park rangers spotted a body approximately 600 feet below the rim just east of the Yavapai Geology Museum. The body was not recovered until February 10 due to diminishing light and dropping temperatures.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner has identified the body as that of the Janice Wotherspoon.

National Park Service rangers are continuing their investigation into the incident.
