Dixie jumped out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter from Justin Cummings and Blake Barney touchdown runs but Cedar did not fold.
Cedar’s John Ursua got his team back into the game by throwing for a touchdown in the second quarter and returning an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, tying the score at 14.
However, Dixie’s Tanner Webster only let the Cedar crowd celebrate for a moment when he returned the kickoff 95 yards to make the score 21-14 Flyers.
Ursua and Cedar went back down the field and tied the score at 21 with nine minutes remaining in the game.
The two teams exchanged touchdowns again but Cedar failed on two two-point after attempts resulting in the two-point difference in the final score.
Justin Cummings rushed for 146 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown and had a 23-yard reception. Blake Barney threw for 123 yards on 8-of-19 passing and one touchdown (one interception). Tanner Webster caught three passes for 35 yards to go along with an outstanding special teams’ performance (two returns for 117 yards, one touchdown). Hayden Bishop did most of the rushing yardage gaining for Cedar (92 yards on 25 carries), and in all the team totaled 202 yards on 45 rushes. John Ursua passed for 139 yards (three touchdowns) and rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries, he also had the interception return for a touchdown.
