On Thursday, Dixie State College could not hold on to a late second-half advantage and eventually settled for a 1-1 draw in Pacific West Conference play with Academy of Art University.
“We go up early thanks to a nice cross,” Danny Ortiz said.
Seph Azevedo deposited the loose ball in the net in the 43rd minute.
The lead held into the final minutes when the Urban Knights scored from close range off a corner kick in the 82nd minute.
Dixie State was the shot aggressors in the overtime period, compiling seven shots to ART U’s one. The teams ended the match even in the shot column with 19 a piece.
“Erik Schallenberger was excellent today and Tyler (Walters) always keeps us in games,” Ortiz added.
Schallenberger led all DSC players with 4shots while Ryan Benevente put two shots on goal. Watlers had seven saves in 110 minutes between the pipes.
The Red Storm (1-5-1/0-2-1 PWC) had threeshots clang off the post, keeping the thrills of victory waiting for another day.
Ortiz said: “Our spirits are still high. We are playing good soccer.”
Dixie State concludes the trip to Northern California on Saturday with its inaugural Pac West meeting with Holy Names University in Oakland. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start.
