(St. George, UT) - Volunteers form the heart and soul of Dixie Regional’s annual Jubilee of Trees. Without them, it simply wouldn’t happen. Each year, hundreds of them bring the holiday spirit to life in the largest showcase of trees between the Wasatch Front and Las Vegas. Their dedication helps ensure the best healthcare available, close to home, for residents of southern Utah and beyond. Each year, they call it a “labor of love.”

The call is out for volunteers to support this year’s event. Now in its 32nd year, the five-day Jubilee – November 15 -19 at The Dixie Convention Center – will raise funds to provide comprehensive neurological services for more than 600 conditions affecting the nervous system – such as stroke, cancer of the brain, spine ailments and injuries, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease—as well as treatment of traumatic brain injuries.

Sheila Pinter, Volunteer Director for the 2012 Jubilee, said, "It truly takes a village. Our greatest need is for tree sitters or tree hosts/hostesses, as this area requires the single greatest number of volunteers. Another area where the volunteer need is great is in the Kid's Zone, where activities for kids (and kid-at-heart parents and families) go on all day.

"Along with these ‘high volume’ areas, we still have need for greeters, bake shop attendants and workers in so many other areas. The Sweet Shop and Bakery alone take about 150 volunteers a day to both staff all shifts and supply goodies—and that’s for five days,” said Pinter. “There are about 120 batches of different sweets that are donated each day, and the average price for a single purchase is $1.00. That doesn’t sound like it adds up to much—until you know that past years’ Jubilee Sweet Shops and Bakeries have donated around $10,000 each year to the cause!” Pinter said.

“In addition to sweets and bakery items, the Jubilee is looking for volunteers to make gingerbread houses, wreaths and Christmas stockings,” said Shelley Mendenhall, Jubilee of Trees Executive Director. “Across the board—regardless of their gift of time, talent or treasure—each volunteer is appreciated beyond words.”
