(Cedar City, UT) – Around Thanksgiving, visitors to the Yankee Meadow area will have a much smoother ride because Iron County and the Forest Service are partnering to pave the Bowery Creek (“Yankee Road” or “First Left Hand Canyon”) road.

Iron County is reconstructing and paving 7000 linear feet of the Bowery Creek road from Highway 143 to the Vermillion Cliffs Campground. This 1.3 mile project will improve access into the popular area of Yankee Meadows.

Construction crews will be working in the area from September 10 thru around November 1, 2012. Crews will maintain access through the area while they work, but there may be delays and one-lane traffic.

For more information about the project or updates on access along this road, contact the Dixie National Forest at (435) 865-3700.
