    (CEDAR CITY, Utah) - Through the Secure Rural Schools Act, the Dixie National Forest has authority to use a Resource Advisory Committees (RACs) as a mechanism for local community collaboration in recommending projects on federal lands or that benefit resources on federal lands. The deadline for applications has been extended due to an insufficient number of applications received to date.

    The U.S. Forest Service is still seeking to fill vacant positions (Categories, A, B, and C) on the Dixie Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). Application forms (hard copy only) must be received at the Dixie National Forest office, by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30th, 2014.

    The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture will make the appointments to the RAC based on the applications received, striving to appoint a diverse membership. Special attention will be given to those who have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with others of different viewpoints. The RAC consists of 15 members and 3 replacement members representing a wide range of interests.

    Citizens interested in applying for RAC membership are encouraged to retrieve an application form (AD 755) on-line at http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/pts/specialprojects/racs or from any local Forest Service office.

    Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on September 30th, 2014 at the Dixie National Forest, ATTN: Janice Minarik, RAC Coordinator, 1789 North Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City, Utah 84721.
