Many drivers have successfully driven the new pattern, which still winds through a construction zone, but some drivers are still adjusting to the new signal placements and lane shifts.
As UDOT inspectors and traffic specialists have monitored the signals and drivers this morning they’ve suggested three tips to help drivers safely adjust to the new layout.
1. Slow down.
2. Follow the arrows.
3. Watch for red lights from the new signals.
This morning’s traffic change marks another milestone in the remodeling of South Cedar Interchange at Exit 57 on Interstate 15. The project also includes a new on-ramp to southbound I-15 from the west side of the interstate. The previous southbound fly-over ramp directly off Main Street is now closed.
Barrells and construction workers will remain in the area for several more weeks as crews work on curbing, signing, pedestrian facilities and other details. Final completion is slated for Mid October.
Drivers interested in navigating the new interchange prior to driving it are encouraged to visit the videos accessible from the project’s web page, www.udot.utah.gov/go/southcedar.
