Felder took Dixie State to the NCAA West Regionals last year with a 17-10 overall record, the first NCAA postseason berth for Red Storm women’s volleyball. She was named Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year.
The 2014 squad is expected to return 11 players from last year’s team and add five new faces to the group.
Dixie State begins the regular season with a bang, heading to the Seattle Pacific Tournament in Washington the first weekend in September. The Red Storm opens with matches against Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Chico on Friday, Sept. 5. Saturday Dixie State takes on Cal Poly Pomona before battling host school Seattle Pacific later that evening.
Following the opening tourney, Dixie State travels to Riverside, Calif. on Sept. 11 for the GNAC/PacWest Crossover Tournament. The Red Storm will play four matches against GNAC opponents over the weekend; including three against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams Central Washington, Western Washington and Alaska Anchorage.
The home opener is also the PacWest conference opener Friday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. against Notre Dame de Namur with another PacWest matchup the next day against Dominican University.
Conference play dictates the rest of the season as DSU visits three of the California schools (Holy Names, Academy of Art, Notre Dame de Namur) in three days over Sept. 25-27 before returning home for a back-to-back against Azusa Pacific and Point Loma the following weekend to begin the month of October.
The Red Storm will then head on its longest road trip of the year as it visits the Hawaiian Islands the week of Oct. 13. The team starts the trip at Chaminade on Oct. 13, and then visits Hawaii Pacific Oct. 14. After a day off, Dixie State will travel to Laie to visit the 2013 runner up to the national championship in BYU-Hawaii before stopping in Hilo to play the Vulcans on Oct. 17.
DSU returns home for Academy of Art on Oct. 21 and Cal Baptist Oct. 25. The team will turn around and head back for a visit to Cal Baptist on Oct. 30 and play at Azusa Pacific on Nov. 1.
The Hawaii schools visit campus with Hilo coming first on Nov. 4. The Red Storm will host BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 5, Hawaii Pacific Nov. 8 and Chaminade on Nov. 9.
The regular season wraps up on the road at Fresno Pacific on Nov. 15.
After a big step forward in 2013, Dixie State looks to build on its winning ways in 2014.
