The first week has allowed the team to lay the foundation for the season and head coach Ed Lamb is pleased with where the team is so far this year.

    Preseason Polls

Southern Utah University is receiving votes in the initial FCS coaches' poll. The Thunderbirds picked up 20 votes in the poll that was released on Aug. 4 and join fellow Big Sky institutions Eastern Washington (No. 2), Montana (No. 5), Montana State (No. 19), Northern Arizona (No. 25) and Cal Poly (RV) as those to appear.

The strength of SUU's schedule was validated as the team will face three teams in the top five, including Eastern Washington, Montana and No. 3 Southeastern Louisiana. The Thunderbirds will also welcome the No. 10-ranked South Dakota State Jackrabbits to Cedar City for Homecoming on Sept. 13.
