(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement on GAO’s new report on HealthCare.gov entitled, Healthcare.gov: Ineffective Planning and Oversight Practices Underscore the Need for Improved Contract Management, which outlines how CMS failed to effectively manage HealthCare.gov contracts:

“Today’s GAO report confirms our worst fears – hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars were wasted to build a website that didn’t work all because of bureaucratic incompetence. Simply put, the Administration put contractors ahead of American taxpayers when it came to the rollout of HealthCare.gov by signing a blank check to big business. At the very least, American families deserve a government that safeguards their tax dollars. But unfortunately, this Administration is becoming the Administration of taxing more and wasting more – all in the name of big government. CMS should be ashamed of their blatant mismanagement. Taxpayers of every party should be outraged at the GAO’s findings.”
