(IRVINE, Calif.) – Dixie State junior outfielder Courtney Sherwin was named the 2013-14 Pacific West Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the conference office on Thursday. A business administration major, Sherwin has a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average.

Sherwin is the first Dixie State student-athlete to earn this prestigious league award since the Red Storm became full members of the PacWest in 2007.

A First-Team All-PacWest selection, Sherwin ranked in the top-10 in the PacWest in hits (78), doubles (15), triples (3), home runs (10), RBI (55), total bases (129), runs (61), on-base percentage (.528) and slugging percentage (.737). Her .446 batting average ranked third in the conference and 20th in the nation, propelling the Red Storm to the second-best batting average in all of Division II. She was also an all-region selection by NFCA and Daktronics.

In Dixie State's postseason run to the Division II College World Series, Sherwin batted .478 with 11 hits, three home runs and 11 RBI – all team-highs. She closed the season hitting safely in 11 of her last 13 games, raising her average to as high as .457 during the West Super Regional.

The PacWest sports information directors selected the overall scholar-athletes of the year from the sport scholar-athletes of the year form each gender.
