(MESQUITE, Nev.) - Defending Champion Vince Biser, along with 31 other one-armed golfers, will play on Mesquite golf courses Monday-Thursday, June 9-12, in the “Never Quit” National Championship of the North American One-Armed Golfers Association.

Biser, of Baltimore, Maryland, has won five golf National Championships and last May participated in the Mesquite NV ParaLong Drive Nationals. Biser also participated in a ParaLong Drive demonstration for the International Network of Golf at the Atlantic City Country Club in New Jersey and hit a long drive of 310 yards. Joining Biser with ParaLong Drive Nationals experience are Jesse Florkowski from Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada, who won the arm division with a record-setting drive of 333 yards; Dan Aldrich, of Los Angeles, and Alan Gentry, from Louisville.

One-armed golfers, including amputees and paralyzed golfers from 13 U.S. States and three Canadians and an Australian, will begin qualifying rounds today at Falcon Ridge Golf Course. Qualifying will continue into the second round on Tuesday at Oasis Golf Club’s Palmer Course. Quarterfinal matches are Wednesday at Oasis Golf Club’s Canyons Course and the Semi-Final and Championship Matches are Thursday at the Falcon Ridge Golf Club.

“Mesquite is known to the golf world as the ‘Home of Long Drive,’ but with this National Championship event and others slated to come in the future, we are also being known as a friend to disabled golf organizations,” said Bryan Dangerfield, Mesquite Athletic Director and Chair of the ParaLong Drive Local Organizing Committee.

The NAOAGA held its Championship last year at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and were looking to secure a 2014 site during the Mesquite NV ParaLong Drive exhibition last October. With the cooperation of local organizations including the Eureka Casino Resort, Golf Mesquite Nevada, Falcon Ridge Golf Course and the Oasis Golf Club and the City of Mesquite and Department of Athletics & Leisure Services; the NAOAGA selected Mesquite as the 2014 Championship site.

Next Oct. 16-17, Mesquite will host the ParaLong Drive Worlds with blind, paramobile (paralyzed), leg/arm amputee golfers representing eight countries. Following the ParaLong Drive, the North American Disability Golf Partnership, the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership and other disabled golf organizations will have their “Phoenix Cup” Golf Tournament in October in a North America vs. Rest of the world (Ryder Cup format).
