SOTS featured the Texaco Country Showdown by Cherry Creek Radio on Friday. The 33rd Annual Texaco Country Showdown is America's largest Country music talent show. It's designed to find the most promising country music talent in the nation via local competitions throughout the US. Winners advance to their respective State competitions held at leading fairs and venues. Acts then compete for a $1,000 prize, the State Title and the opportunity to advance to one of five Regional Finals. Southern Utah boasts some exceptional talent, and this year’s competition was a tough one for the judges. Said attendee Michael Cothrun, “The show was fabulous. All of the contestants deserved to movie on, they were all amazing.” This year’s winner Jared Harlan, will be a fierce competitor at the state level. After winning the competition, Harlan closed the show by singing a tune he wrote himself called “Making Out In A Duckblind”.
The rest of the season will feature more events and great family friendly movies. Long time SOTS devotee Amy Palmer says, “Sunset on the Square really is a great summer time program. It is a fun, free opportunity to spend time with friends and family outside enjoying the weather and Town Square Park.”
