(ST. GEORGE, Utah) - In conjunction with the Zion National Park Foundation’s “Art of the National Parks” exhibit at Split Rock Gallery in Ancestor Square, there will be two free public lectures at the St. George Art Museum. The lectures will be held Friday, May 2 and Friday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. On May 2, Michelle Haas of Zion National Park, will speak on "The Role of Art in Conservation,” and on May 9, Christopher Gezon of Zion National Park will present "Art and the Preservation of our National Parks."

Although these lectures sound similar, they each take different approaches on the fundamental role that art played in the creation, promotion, and preservation of our nation's national parks. The exhibit at Split Rock Gallery celebrates the publication of a new book entitled “Art of the National Parks,” which features a beautiful section on Zion National Park. The work of artists featured in the Zion section will be on exhibit at the gallery through May 17.

The St. George Art Museum is located at 47 E. 200 N. Refreshments will follow the lectures at the Split Rock Gallery in The Tower at Ancestor Square 2 West St. George Blvd #36, where attendees will be able to view the exhibit.
