(MESQUITE, Nev.) – On Saturday, April 26th, the Mesquite Police Department will participate in National Drug Take Back Day in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Residents are encouraged to “Spring clean” their medicine cabinets and bring expired or unused prescription pill medication to the Mesquite Police Department at 695 Mayan Circle for proper disposal between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This service is free, anonymous, and offers convenient disposal.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high--more Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than those using cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family, friends, and the home medicine cabinet.
