(ST. GEORGE, Utah) - Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah has a goal of an additional 1000 participants in the upcoming Color Me Rad 5K Race before May 10, 2014. This ambitious goal will enable the local non-profit organization to pay for up to 20% of new home construction for a deserving low-income family; or, through their “A Brush with Kindness” program, to replace 5 damaged roofs or complete 20 small projects, averaging about $500 each, including painting, landscaping, weatherization or other minor repairs for local seniors or those living alone.

In its third year in St. George, the Color Me Rad event is scheduled to begin at the Ridge Top Complex at 317 S Donlee Drive at 9:00 a.m. on May 10. Participants of all ages will be bombarded with approximately 5000 lbs. of colored FDA approved cornstarch as they walk or run along the course. The 3.1 mile untimed event, with a focus on fun will end with runners declaring themselves rad as they toss individual bags of color into the air creating a final colorful display.

“Bring the kids, family, friends, neighbors or co-workers for a memorable Saturday morning,” states Michael Gburski, Executive Director for the local Habitat affiliate.

“There is nothing more rad than knowing all this colorful mayhem is for a good cause,” notes event organizer Scott Crandall, who notes a portion of the proceeds for the St. George race goes to support Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah.

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah, one of more than 1,500 such affiliates worldwide, has built 19 new homes through volunteer labor and donations and has completed numerous repair and renovation projects in Washington County in their 16-year history. Habitat for Humanity, locally and internationally, believes every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Habitat homeowners purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans.

Participants are encouraged to register at www.colormerad.com using Promo Code HABITAT or call the office of Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah at 674-7669 for information on volunteering at the event.
