(OGDEN, Utah) - Southern Utah's Meagan Neilson was named the Softball Player of the Week by the Big Sky Conference Monday after batting 4-8 for a .500 average over the weekend. The senior second baseman helped Southern Utah to a three-game sweep of its series with Portland State to move into a tie atop the conference standings with Sacramento State. Neilson becomes the second Thunderbird to receive the award with Madison Resley being recognized earlier this season.

Neilson posted a 1.125 slugging percentage against the Vikings after hitting her third home run of the year, along with a pair of doubles. Neilson's homer clinched an 8-0 win for the Thunderbirds in the fifth inning of the opener, and she added a pair of RBI doubles on the day for a total of six RBI. The Harrisville, Utah native is batting .400 in Big Sky play and has driven in 15 runs while scoring another 13 so far this season.

Sacramento State's Caitlin Brooks was named the Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.

Southern Utah has a break this week before traveling north for a visit to BYU on Tuesday, April 15. The Thunderbirds return home next weekend for a single game against Dixie State, followed by their final Big Sky home series of the year with North Dakota.
