Jan Goodwin grew up working on a large cattle ranch in Washington State where he learned at an early age the importance of hard work, initiative, and responsibility. During his last semester at Brigham Young University, his National Guard unit was activated for Desert Storm and he served as a Combat Engineer squad leader. Upon his return, Jan finished his degree at BYU and began working at a behavior disorder unit in Granite School District. After he completed a Master’s degree, he worked as a counselor in the Jordan School District.
Jan, his wife Poksil, and daughters moved to southern Utah in 1996, when he was hired as a counselor at Hurricane Middle School. He completed his administrative credentials at Southern Utah University. Jan was selected as an assistant principal at Hurricane Middle School in 2005.
