    The Parable of the Good Samaritan
    (ST. GEORGE, Utah) - Dixie State University’s School of Humanities will host its fifth Barnum Honors Lecture of the 2013-14 academic year on Friday, March 21, featuring a presentation entitled “The Parable of the Good Samaritan: Ancient Cultures and Modern Messages,” by BYU Law Professor John W. Welch. The lecture will begin at 12 noon, in the Browning Resource Center Dunford Auditorium. Admission is free for all community members, DSU students, and faculty and staff.

    Welch is the Robert K. Thomas Professor of Law at BYU and editor-in-chief of BYU Studies. He practiced law in Los Angeles with O'Melveny & Myers law firm, at which time he founded the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies. From 1988-91, he served as one of the editors for Macmillian's Encyclopedia of Mormonism, and he has served as the general editor of the Collected Works of Hugh Nibley. Welch organized the bicentennial conference for Joseph Smith at the Library of Congress, and has served on the executive committee of the Biblical Law Section of the Society of Biblical Literature.

    In addition to his lecture, Welch will visit with DSU students interested in applying to law school in the DSU Udvar-Hazy Business Building Room 224 beginning at 1:30 p.m. He will answer questions and provide advice to students about the application process.
