  • Dixie State returns to NCAAs for fifth straight year

    (ST. GEORGE, Utah) – The Dixie State men's basketball team earned an at-large into the 2014 NCAA Division II Basketball Championships, announced Sunday night. The Red Storm are the No. 6 seed in the West Region and begin their journey Friday, March 14, in San Bernardino, Calif.

    Dixie State (21-6) makes their fifth consecutive regional appearance. In the opening round Friday at noon Pacific, DSU will face No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona (21-6), an at-large selection from the California Collegiate Atheltic Conference. This will mark the second meeting with the Broncos in the regionals. CPP defeated Dixie State in the 2010 first round, 72-61, on their way to winning the National Championship.

    The winner of the tournament's opening game will meet the winner of the 2/7 matchup featuring the Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion Seattle Pacific (26-5) and CCAA Tournament Champion, Cal State Stanislaus (21-8).

    On the other side of the bracket, CCAA finalist Chico State (22-7) will face Pacific West Conference regular season champion California Baptist (24-3). The host Coyotes of CSU San Bernardino (23-4) will close out the first day hosting PacWest Tournament Champion Chaminade (19-12).

    The eight regional champions will advance to the quarterfinals in conjunction with the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
