The T-Birds fell behind in the first inning after giving up six runs on seven hits. Dayton catcher Kasi Vasquez provided three of the scores with a home run to left center, and Katie Ryan followed up with a two-run shot to give her team the early lead.
SUU quickly narrowed the margin by plating four runners in the top of the second to pull back within two. Senior Terysa Dyer brought in Madison Resley with blast down the line over the right field wall for her first home run of the year, and Meagan Neilson and Kylee Wolf both drew walks with the bases loaded to make the difference 6-4.
Henderson’s first homer of the day tied things up in the fourth inning, and the senior infielder added a three-run blast in the top of the sixth to put Southern Utah out in front, 9-6.
Dayton struck back in the bottom half of the inning as Tiffany Ricks drove in a pair of runs with a base hit and Vasquez collected her second home run of the contest to give the lead back to the Flyers. They would hold on from there to take the win by a final score of 10-9.
Katie Greenberg did most of the work in the circle for the T-Birds, tossing 4.2 innings and giving up four runs on five hits and four walks. Ashley Ostler (0-3) came on in relief during the sixth inning and was charged with the loss after allowing the final two runs. Gabrielle Snyder (4-4) took the decision for the Flyers with two innings of relief.
Thunderbird outfielder Sara Park batted 3-5 at the lead off position, while Wolf, Resley and Lyndsey Healey each had a pair of hits on the day.
