SUU junior Sarah Park lead off the game with a triple and the Thunderbirds went on to put up three runs in the opening inning. Kylee Wolf drove in the first score with an RBI single to right and Terysa Dyer walked in a run with the bases loaded. Healey drove a single back up the middle to plate Kadi Henderson and Southern Utah led 3-0 after one.
Theurer added another RBI in the third and four more runs in the top of the fourth had the Thunderbirds in front 8-0. SUU came up with five two-out hits in the frame, including a base-knock from Healey that drove in her second and third runs of the contest.
The Mavericks got on the board with an RBI single from Campbell Ditto in the bottom of the fifth and Allie Matthewson added a solo home run in the final frame to set the final count at 8-2.
Theurer (3-4) went all seven innings in the circle for SUU to pick up her third win of the season. Lizzlie Noble (1-2) was charged with the loss after throwing just a third of an inning.
Southern Utah outhit Omaha, 13-5 and both teams committed one error.
Southern Utah’s bats cooled off in its second matchup of the day as the T-Birds dropped an 8-0 decision to the host Rams in five innings. CSU erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second, including a base clearing double off the bat of Danielle Wikre. Hutton also drove in a pair of runs during the rally and Larisa Petakoff (2-3) tossed a complete game shutout. Ariel Hart (1-4) took the loss for SUU after giving up seven runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.
