(MESQUITE, Nev.) - The City of Mesquite is investigating the issues in the Highland Hills Subdivision. Since 2009, in conjunction with the Southern Nevada Health District, the City has been monitoring levels of methane gas in the area. To date, according to Forsgren Associates Inc./RMEC Environmental Inc., which were hired by the City to monitor the levels, the methane gas readings have never been recorded as unsafe at ground surface. The City will continue to monitor the levels and work with Forsgren Associates Inc./RMEC Environmental Inc.

The current City of Mesquite Staff was not involved with the Highland Hills Subdivisions Final Map and Master Plan Amendments that were approved in 2004 and 2005. Due to the safety and legal issues involved, the City is reviewing all documents, maps, permits, etc. to determine the best avenue of resolution. The City will continue to gather all relevant information from the parties involved and will determine the proper course of action based upon the facts.
