(AUSTIN, Texas) – Regional membership of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association voted Dixie State baseball in the fifth spot in the preseason West Region rankings and placed first baseman Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV) on the All-West First Team as announced Wednesday.

Third baseman Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan) also received a region Honorable Mention selection.

This marks the second year in a row the Red Storm have been picked fifth in the NCBWA preseason West Region poll. Last year, Dixie State finished the regular season third in the NCAA West Region and hosted the 2013 West Regionals at Bruce Hurst Field.

DSU collected 35 points to slot behind four California Collegiate Athletic Association schools – Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State L.A., and Sonoma State. The Wildcats, who garnered three first-place votes, are once again the preseason favorites in the CCAA and the West Region. In the sixth spot is one of Dixie State's conference foes, California Baptist. The Lancers earned a slight nod to be preseason favorites in the Pacific West, but earned five less votes than the Red Storm in the regional tally.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Cal State East Bay, Cal Poly Pomona, Western Oregon and UC San Diego.

Junior first baseman Kline, previously selected to the PacWest First Team, was named to the West Region First Team. The 6-foot-3 corner infielder was selected to the PacWest Second Team and garnered two region nod (Daktronics 2nd Team, NCBWA HM).

Kata, the junior infielder, was a PacWest third team selection one season ago.

The Red Storm battles a team on alumni on Saturday at Bruce Hurst Field, beginning at 1 p.m. The regular season will open Friday, Feb. 7, with a series at Cal Poly Pomona.
