(CEDAR CITY, Utah) - Southern Utah University gymnastics will face Boise State for the second of four times this year when the two teams meet in Boise on Friday night.
SUU will enter the meet looking for its first victory of the season and BSU will be looking to remain undefeated against Mountain Rim Gymnastic members, carrying a perfect 4-0 record this year against the Thunderbirds, BYU and Denver. Boise has yet to face Utah State this season.
Southern Utah improved by almost two points from its season opener to its home opener last week, beginning the season with a 192.025 and suffering 11 falls at Utah to a 193.975 with only five falls last weekend against Utah State. Head coach Scott Bauman is confident that the team will continue to improve as the season moves on.
“We keep getting better and better,” he said. “It is how we train. We don’t plan on coming out in that first meet at our peak, but want to be doing our best gymnastics late in the season.”
SUU will face Boise State again next week when the Broncos travel to Cedar City on Jan. 31. The teams will square off for the final time at the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championship on March 22.
The meet this Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with links for live stats and a live video feed available online at www.suutbirds.com.
Southern Utah faced Boise State in the 2014 season opener at the University of Utah where BSU finished second with a 195.850 and SUU finished fourth with a 192.025
