“Massage is not a luxury,” said massage therapist Monique Davis. “It is a necessity for balanced wellbeing.”
With that in mind, Davis said the prices at Mistic Day Spa are much lower than what she said the typical “trendy-type” spa would charge, because the focus is on overall care and wellbeing, not on getting rich.
Davis said that the low prices are not a reflection of lack of experience, or quality of workmanship. She said she has been a licensed massage therapist for nearly 18 years, and cannot stand to turn a client away, because they cannot afford a treatment. She said she knows how vital massage therapy is for overall health.
Spa owner Bobbi Kimball said she decided to open the spa, because she was having trouble losing some extra weight after having a child. She said she had heard that sauna’s help people to lose weight and thought to herself, everyone should have an opportunity to lose weight naturally with the help of a sauna.
Kimball said sauna’s help with more than just weight loss, and it would be nice to be able to offer her family a chance to feel better while she was working on her own issue.
“My brother works hard,” she said. “He’s sore and achy and it helps with your joints.
“Then I got thinking, I should start a business for everybody out there to come and use it,” she said.
She said the use of wholly organic products was not her first idea, but she had always wondered what all of the chemicals women use to treat their hair do to damage their skin and hair.
After teaming up with Davis who already knew a lot about the importance of using organic products, Kimball said the choice to go organic just came naturally.
Davis said she had to do quite a bit of research to find a good organic product line to carry, but finally settled on Organic. She said that they are 100 percent certified organic and offer a variety of hair products that are chemical free, including hair color and perms.
“Beautifying is not a new ritual,” Davis said. “It has been happening forever, long before the modern age of chemicals that we have grown accustomed to.”
In addition, Davis said the spa would carry only all organic products such as Solavedi and Odda Oils for each treatment they offer. Treating the person as a whole person instead of just bits and pieces is important, she said.
“The skin is the largest organ on our bodies,” Davis said. “Why shouldn’t we be as concerned with what we cover our bodies in as we are about the foods we consume?
“That way of thinking just doesn’t make any sense to me,” she added.
Mistic Day Spa will open Saturday at noon, and guests who come in for a treatment will get a discount off any second service they receive. Additionally there will be free food, and a variety of prizes given away throughout the day by DJ Johnny Utah.
Kimball said that Stone Haven Bridal Hall donated a $600 package to be given away at the opening. She said they had Eagle Point ski lift tickets and T-shirts from Cherry Creek Radio, and many other prizes to be given out during the opening.
