Lois Isabella Martin Allred (Reeve), nearly 98, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, always energetic and optimistic, passed away of natural causes on December 5, 2013.

Lois was born in Provo, Utah on December 26, 1915 to William Perley Martin and Alice Isabella Farrington. She married Daniel Free Allred of Wallsburg, Utah in Stockton, California, on September 4, 1936, her husband of 63 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1942.

At the age of 84, in the year 2000, a year after Daniel passed away, she married their family friend, William Smith Reeve, whose wife had also passed away the same month as Daniel. Together she and William moved from Salt Lake City to Southern Utah to be in a warmer climate and to enable her to be near her brother Ray and his wife Heloise, her sister Mary, and nephews and nieces.

William only survived fourteen months following their marriage, and Lois has since lived alone with her dog in Hurricane from the age of 85, some 12 years. She was blessed with good health, and these last years continued to be very happy ones. During this period she and her neighbors became very close. These dear, dear friends, along with members of her family living in the vicinity, volunteered untold hours visiting her and assisting her in countless ways, and it was only because of this kindness that she was able to lead a life of seeming independence, which she treasured.

Members of her immediate family, none of whom lives in Southern Utah, wish to express their heartfelt thanks to each of these good people. They made her last years a joy.

She was active in the LDS church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served selflessly in the church, holding many leadership positions.

As an accomplished artist, she painted many award winning landscapes in both oil and watercolor. She was a member of the Associated Utah Artists.

She loved to spend time with her children and grand children and endeavored to teach them guiding principles. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Allred Essen (husband Gene), Pauline Allred Howard (husband Robert) and son, Daniel Martin Allred (wife Suzanne) and by her loving brother, Ray Farrington Martin (wife Heloise,) and sister, Mary Martin Stevens. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A viewing and funeral services will begin at 9:30 and 11:00, respectively, on Saturday, December 14, at the Hurricane (Sky Mountain) 11th Ward, 452 North 2600 West, Hurricane, Utah, and internment will be the following Monday at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery, 4900 Memory Lane (1900 East), Holladay, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the John A. Moran Eye Center For Macular Degeneration Research, 65 Mario Capecchi Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132, in the name of Lois Isabella Allred, as she was know through most of her life.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George, UT (435) 673-2454.
