    (SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – Tim Lawson has been indicted on six felonies, many of which are in response to his inappropriate involvement and connection with Mark Shurtleff, John Swallow, and the Utah Attorney General’s Office. Utah Democratic Party Jim Dabakis issued the following statement Friday;

    “We need a steward in the AG’s office. Someone beyond reproach and without connections to the Shurtleff/Swallow pay-to-play attitude. A person to clean house, restore the public trust, and then, in November, we need an open election by the people of Utah to select the next attorney general.”

    “Business as usual is unacceptable. The news of Lawson’s alleged transgressions, and his inappropriately close relationship with the former attorney general means we need someone who will take charge of the office until the people of Utah can elect the next AG in an open, fair election in November. Someone with no political ties to the office, no spot in the insider network. We need someone who can come in, clean house, and restore public trust in the office, particularly with the possibility of other indictments to follow.”
