(ST. GEORGE, Utah) - The City of St. George is pleased to announce the beginning of the planning process for an all-abilities park. According to Leisure Services Director Kent Perkins, “We want to work as a community to build a park and playground that is universally inclusive and accessible. This facility will be built in Tonaquint Park and will provide persons with disabilities, their families, friends, and peers a place to play, socialize and learn together.”

The kickoff for this exciting project will be Wednesday, December 11 at 5:30 pm at the Dixie Convention Center, Entrada room. The public is invited to attend and give input on the design and theme for the facility. Shane’s Inspiration, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities, will help facilitate this input session. Children are welcome to attend to draw a picture of their vision of this new facility.

“We want to create a magical place where play happens without barriers or bias. A place where acceptance and awareness are fostered and the focus is on abilities, not disabilities” says Perkins.

For more information and for ways to get involved please contact the St. George Leisure Services Department at 435-627-4500.
