Immediately, upon receiving the reports of graffiti, a Mesquite Patrol Officer launched a criminal investigation in an effort to apprehend those responsible. On Saturday, November 16, 2013 the officer uncovered information which led to the offender, identified as 18 year old Michael Bautista. Bautista admitted to placing the graffiti and was cited for eight misdemeanor counts of placing graffiti.
“We have zero tolerance when it comes to graffiti in this community, and our department will continue to take swift action by bringing those responsible to justice,” explained Chief Troy Tanner. He also stressed the importance of stopping graffiti in order to maintain the beautification Mesquite and avoid the potential decay that graffiti represents. Chief Tanner commends the patrol officer for their quick thinking and use of their investigative skills to find crucial evidence in this case.
