Northern Colorado jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and led by at least two points throughout the frame. Southern Utah fought off the Bears' first set point at 24-20 with a Lusia Angilau kill, but an echoing kill by the home side gave UNC the set 25-21.
SUU made the most of two opening Northern Colorado errors in the second set to take a 2-0 lead, but the Bears found their groove and rattled off five straight points to take a 5-2 advantage. Alissa Youart ended the UNC run with a kill, but the two-point margin was as close as the Thunderbirds came in the set, falling 25-15 in the end.
The Bears used another four-point run to start the third set and held the Thunderbirds to single digits through 18-9. Northern Colorado then used a pair of three-point runs late in the set to finish off the match 25-14.
Mikayla Dunford led the Thunderbird attack for the first time this season with eight kills on a team-high 26 attempts. Youart and Sariah Pelaez paced the Thunderbird defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively and Taylor Heine led the T-bird block with four (0-4-1). Northern Colorado's Kendra Cunningham led all attackers with 11 kills on 28 swings.
