Most find Zumba a bit intimidating because of the moves, how bright the room is and/or the mirrors in the room. It is a totally different world in one of Nick and Erica’s classes. When you walk through the doors at Edge training and fitness center, there are no mirrors, or bright lights. You are greeted with smiles and camaraderie.
Lights shine on Nick and Erica so students can see and learn the moves. Black lights replace the normal fluorescent lights adding to the comfort of a first timer while creating a fun atmosphere. Regulars are friendly and treat new comers as family.
“We’re not here to judge our fellow attendees or instructor, or to be judged. We’re here to encourage each other and have a good time working up a sweat. Zumba is family. When we’re here we’re family.” Nick explains after classes. All the stress of the day is left at the door and you just have fun.
Nick and Erica have a few simple rules they like students to follow. First, just keep moving. Second, always keep smiling. Third, just have fun. Fourth, make Zumba yours. Two versions are taught in their classes. Erica teaches the more advanced steps, while Nick shows students how to modify steps to fit their level.
Overall Zumba is a great workout and a great way to lose weight. Nick and Erica both have lost weight from doing Zumba. Nick has lost 85 lbs and Erica, his wife, has lost 100 lbs. “Eating right and doing Zumba have helped me.” Erica says as she shares her success with students.
