(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) - The Utah Attorney General’s Office and the Special Legislative Investigative Committee filed a joint protective order to help provide records and protect the privacy interests of the public. The order aims to protect health and tax records, documents related to crimes against children and ongoing criminal investigations as well as sealed court records.

The A.G.’s Office has already produced nearly 8,000 records on a voluntary basis and has worked with committee investigators to copy computer hard drives and network servers. During this process it was discovered that some of the records included private health information that is protected by federal law.

The A.G.’s Office and the Special Committee are asking Third District Judge Su Chon to sign a jointly agreed-upon order that allows investigators access to the records and provides protection for private and confidential information.

Copies of the proposed order, the motion and memorandum and an A.G. affidavit supporting the order can be found here http://1.usa.gov/1860QR9.
