  • Thunderbird Men Travel To Utah State

    (CEDAR CITY, Utah) - Southern Utah’s men’s basketball team plays its first road game of the 2013-14 season Tuesday when the Thunderbirds take on Utah State at 7:00 p.m. in the Spectrum.

    SUU (1-0/0-0 Big Sky) is coming off a season-opening 85-78 home win over Arizona Christian. In their only open exhibition game of the season the Thunderbirds posted a 75-52 win over University of La Verne.

    SUU got contributions from the veterans and the newcomers in the win over ACU. Sophomore wing A.J. Hess scored 17 points and pulled down six rebounds while Jayson Cheesman had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists and Cal Hanks had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead the returners. Freshman guard Trey Kennedy finished with 11 points and five assists and freshman guard Juwan Major added 12 points and another freshman guard, John Marshall, had a game-high three steals.

    Utah State (1-0/0-0 Mountain West) also opened its 2013-14 campaign at home on Friday. The Aggies hosted Southern California and came away with a 78-65 win over the Trojans.
