    (MESQUITE, Nev.) -- U.S. Veteran – Fred Schmidt, Age 80 passed away October 29th 2013 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, UT. He was born in New York, NY December 13, 1932 to Fred Schmidt and Johanna Prengel. He married Virginia Johnson in 1960 in California they were together until her passing in 1990. Fred later met and married Linda Barnum in Mesquite NV.

    He was raised in The Bronx New York and joined the army in 1952 to fight in the Korean conflict. After the war, he pursued a career in the aerospace industry and became a quality control inspector for Rolls Royce aerospace and worked on the space shuttle program.

    Fred was a kind, loving and generous man. He impacted and influenced the lives of everyone who knew him. He was quick to smile and share his wit. He had a passion for knowledge and spent a lot of time learning all he could about the world around him. The void he leaves behind in our lives can never be filled.

    He is survived by: his wife Linda B Schmidt; stepchildren, Robert Barker of Las Vegas NV, Darrin (Paige) Hughes of San Antonio TX, Darece (Perry) Miller of St. George UT, Destini Green (Jason Monsen) of Mesquite NV and Moria (Paul) Hickman of Mesquite NV. Additionally, Fred was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren.

    Fred was preceded in death by his mother and father, Johanna and Fred Schmidt, in-laws, Lester and Vilate Barnum, sister Irene Engel, son Fred Schmidt and stepson Derek Hughes.

    Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am preceded by a viewing at 9:30 am at the Mesquite Stake Center. Interment will be at the Mesquite Cemetery under the direction of the Virgin Valley Mortuary, 702-346-6060.
