(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – Utah Democratic Party Chair Jim Dabakis issued the following statement Thursday, in response to the recent legal interpretation from the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (DABC) that restaurants in Utah must ask patrons “will you be dining with us today?”

“Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. I am sure Colorado already has this crazy DABC requirement posted on their Ski Denver website as evidence that Utah is a scary place for tourists. Utah itself is not weird, of course, but the DABC interpretation requiring people walking into a restaurant to affirmatively state that they are there to dine is incomprehensibly odd. How does asking that question stop alcohol-related crime or underage drinking? Dumb.”

“I will be introducing legislation to change the wacky DABC decision, which I see as anti-business, and an economic growth killer.”

Just when Utah seems like they understand Free Speech and Citizen's Rights, they come up with something like this. Utah needs to GROW UP and understand that alcohol is LEGAL and that adults that act responsibly (the MAJORITY) should not be punished without cause for actions of those that don't (the MINORITY).
