(ST. GEORGE, Utah) - Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) led the Dixie State women's soccer team with four shots while the team outshot the opponents of Azusa Pacific 14-12, but a 22nd minute goal from Amanda Hardy was enough for the Cougars to take the three Pacific West Conference league points in a 1-0 decision at Hansen Stadium.

The Red Storm (6-5-2/6-3-1 PacWest) was shut out for the sixth time this year and fell for the second time with the final score culminating at 1-0.

APU extended its scoreless string to 515 minutes – stretching over five matches – to improve to 8-1-1 on the year and 5-0-1 in league action. The Cougars won their first match of the year scoring less than two goals (previously 0-1-1 in those games).

Hardy's goal for the Cougars came off a rebounded shot from Haley Fisher. From six yards out, Hardy scored just inside the left post. The 1-0 APU lead held until half despite the shot total balancing out at five shots for each team.

"We knew we could have done better in the first half," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We felt our second half performance was very strong."

DSU had multiple chances midway in the second period, but best efforts on a Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) header and blast from Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) were thwarted by great goalkeeping by Sarah Klinkenberg.

The Storm won the shot battle by two. Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) made four stops while the team received credit for one save.

"We thought we deserved to get the win today," Bingham added.

Dixie State closes out its home season next Saturday, Oct. 26, with a league match against Point Loma. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. including recognition of the team's only senior, Danica Pickett (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas).
