(PARK CITY, Utah) – The inaugural Fallen Officers’ Memorial 5K Run will be held on November 2, 2013 in Draper, UT. Organized and conceived by the family of Sergeant Derek Johnson, who was killed in the line of duty in September, participating runners will take a route that will pass the site where Sgt. Johnson was killed and as well as a memorial to his life.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Utah 1033 Foundation whose mission is to provide immediate financial support to the families of fallen Utah law enforcement officers. The Johnsons are the third family the non-profit has assisted with a check for $25,000 since it was founded in 2011.

Dayson Johnson, Derek’s brother and one of the principal organizers of the 5K says, “We’ve had a tremendous amount of support from the community since we lost Derek, and we want to help pay it forward to prepare for the next time The Utah 1033 Foundation is called upon to help another family.”

Registration is $20 per person eight years and older and $10 for children under eight. Families can register up to five people for $60 ($10 each additional family member). Registration fees increase after October 28.
